Hammering Out Great Work

Foundation clients A&I  (Angela + Ithyle) presented a short film last night in Los Angeles at the Hammer Museum during their popular Flux event.  Also screening was the premiere of LOVED BY WATER, a poignant  short film by Vince Haycock who is a friend of the Foundation family.

Foundation owner James Lipetzky with Focus Creep director Aaron Brown in front of the Billy Wilder Theatre.

In addition to special guests  Angela + Ithyle and Vincent Haycock were Sophie Gateau (below is Foundation owner, Samantha Hart holding one of her creations) and Neistat Brothers, of the eponymous HBO series. The program also included new work from Spike Jonze, Aardman Animation, Kutiman and David Altobelli.

It was a very creative night and nice to see so many innovative and talented people sharing their work in such an awesome forum!

Scotch it to Me!

We recently hosted a 3D seminar with the folks from Quantel.

There was a demonstration along with a Q&A every two hours starting at around 10 am. The real party however, kicked off later that afternoon when we opened up a Scotch bar on the second floor of our offices, chocked full of tasty aged Scotch from all over the world! The bar service and catering were provided by none other than our friends at JFod.

The event was a success with everyone leaving feeling just a little more… enlightened!

Stay tuned for more 3D news to come.

Way of the Peaceful Warrior

Editor Tom Pastorelle recently cut some videos for Symphony Guild Seattle Children’s Hospital. The videos were directed by Brian Johnson, who is a frequent collaborator of Tom’s.

Brian’s friend Mateo Messina (Grammy Award winner for the Juno score) asked him to concept and shoot four videos.  Mateo holds a benefit concert every year for this Hospital. One of the videos was a teaser for the benefit concert to air on local Seattle stations and the other three were to be shown during the event to familiarize the audience with the doctors and patients.

Brian and Tom spent a week cutting the videos and then sent them to Mateo to score.  This was a pro bono effort from start to finish.  Tom was happy to donate his time, saying,  “The reward was getting to work on something for a good cause and laughing it up in the editing room with Brian.  Good times.”

Of the four videos, one featured Rishi, a patient born without working kidneys. We all found his story particularly inspirational. This year the theme for the benefit was “superheroes”, so the kids each came up with a costume and a name.  Rishi is the “Peaceful Warrior” and he uses music to scare off bad guys and comfort people.

The Today Show aired a segment today on this young “Peaceful Warrior”!!
