Web 2.0 Added to the Dictionary?

I just read an interesting article on Yahoo! Tech about how “Web 2.0” is being added as the one millionth word to the English dictionary! And it’s causing quite a stir in the linguistics community!

Apparently the Global Language Monitor, which uses a math formula to track the frequency of words and phrases in print and electronic media, claimed “Web 2.0” appeared over 25,000 times in searches!!!But some people call it “fraud”. Geoffrey Nunberg, a linguistics professor at the University of California at Berkeley, says “It’s not bad science. It’s nonsense.”

What do you think? Should Web 2.0 be included in the dictionary? Vote now!

Where were you 25 years ago today?

Well, I was not quite born yet but I can tell you where Steve Jobs was at this time 25 years ago….CLICK HERE TO SEE!

Twenty Five years ago today, Apple introduced the world to the Macintosh personal computer with the 1984 ad.

And twenty five years later…I am sending this blog to you through a lovely macbook pro and Apple is still pumping out iconographic ads and world peace finally seems to be within our grasp…

Thank you Apple…thank you.

Here We Are Now…and Then

Have you seen this article posted to CNN about the famous naked baby underwater from Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album cover?

Well, that baby (Spencer Elden) was indeed right; it was Kurt Cobain who came up with the idea of the baby under water – but if it weren’t for our own Creative Director, Samantha Hart, Spencer might have looked a little less…well…exposed!

But let me back up a minute and take you back 17 years…

The story is, Geffen Records said big stores like K-Mart wouldn’t carry it if the baby’s naughty bits were showing and so the little pecker was airbrushed off.  Samantha, who had a little kiddo of her own at that time, didn’t think it was “that big a deal” and also had enough insight into the world of nineties grunge rock to know that this notion of “scandal”  just might make the album even cooler. She stated her case to Geffen and told her team to reinstate little Spencer’s willie.  The rest is history.

btw, I just realized that there are about a million and one ways to say “penis”.

Dreams Give Way to Change

Back in 1995, when David Geffen announced he was leaving Geffen Records to form Dreamworks with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, seven Geffen Records alumni were invited to a congratulatory dinner. Among those seven was one of Foundation’s founders Samantha Hart. Outside of the restaurant she had created a “card” for David in the form of a bus shelter which read:

“Dreams are wiser than men, with a few notable exceptions”.

Kinda prophetic- huh?

Anyway…I found this picture of the bus shelter and wanted to share.

(Oh…and FYI…when David Geffen backed Obama in March of 2007, not everybody believed in “change” yet…with the exception of Sam. She was quoted as saying “Now I’m sure Obama will win…David always backs a winner.”)
