A Night with Inner-City Filmmakers

Foundation L.A. recently hosted a roundtable discussion for an audience of students and alumni from Inner-City Filmmakers, a nonprofit dedicated to training and employing disenfranchised high school grads.  The panel – including DPs, editors, directors, Poolhouse producers, and our own James Lipetzky – covered everything from story development to hands-on practicalities of production.

It was a wonderful evening, everyone stayed late to share advice for the kids’ future collaboration with Nylon Studios, Kodak Film, and EKA Reps on the upcoming  Pocket Fest film festival.

Special thanks to all the fantastic panelists who made the night possible: Jessica Cooper Carlson, Mary Ellen Duggan, Will Hartman, Barry Norwood, Robert Parker, Lyra Rider, Vicki Mayer, and James Lipetzky.

United We Stand

In Los Angeles, James Lipetzky directed a piece for United Way of Orange County. Shot over five days on location in Orange County,  Foundation’s Evan Cohen pulled double duty on this shoot as both Line Producer and AD.

The shoot culminated with 50 people on the beach in Newport Beach.  James Lipetzky commented; “I was deeply moved by some of the stories I encountered while on this shoot, of those helped by United Way. The work they do to help those in need really is exceptional.” Stay tuned for more on this piece in the future!

Double Dribble

This past December, James Lipetzky Directed a spot for Draft FCB for Hampton Hotels. The piece was shot on our stage and featured a rather unique public figure… Joseph Odhiambo. Joe holds the world record for dribbling basketballs.

Tom Pastorelle, who is no stranger to the Hampton brand, edited this spot and the graphics featured the handiwork of Jason Voke and Curt Cooper. “It was a fun shoot” says James, “Joe was high energy and that pumped up every one on the crew – and I think that energy is evident in the final piece”

The spot is a lot of fun and yes… no special effects here… Joe, like Hampton, is the real deal.

Hammering Out Great Work

Foundation clients A&I  (Angela + Ithyle) presented a short film last night in Los Angeles at the Hammer Museum during their popular Flux event.  Also screening was the premiere of LOVED BY WATER, a poignant  short film by Vince Haycock who is a friend of the Foundation family.

Foundation owner James Lipetzky with Focus Creep director Aaron Brown in front of the Billy Wilder Theatre.

In addition to special guests  Angela + Ithyle and Vincent Haycock were Sophie Gateau (below is Foundation owner, Samantha Hart holding one of her creations) and Neistat Brothers, of the eponymous HBO series. The program also included new work from Spike Jonze, Aardman Animation, Kutiman and David Altobelli.

It was a very creative night and nice to see so many innovative and talented people sharing their work in such an awesome forum!

United By Film

Tonight our piece for United Way, “Live United” (aka clothesline), which recently won the Gold Hugo Award, was screened at the Chicago International Film Festival’s “Best of INTERCOM”.

Owner, James Lipetzky and EP Tracy Heropkie posed with United Way’s Kelly O’Brien, who brought us the project.

It was a magical night, with some wonderful films! Chicago… I’m yours!

Farm Livin’ Is The Life For Me!

James Lipetzky recently took a crew down to Southern Illinois for a shoot with the folks from Rhea & Kaiser for FS. This is our second collaboration with FS; you may recall our first shoot, where we documented three different Midwest farms.

Well, this year we were hosted by farmers Stan Kelsey and his son, Willis. The shoot was a great experience for all despite the 90+ degree summer heat.   James says he certainly knows a lot more about soybeans than he did last week.

I don’t know… I think James might have enjoyed this last shoot a little too much… do I see Foundation Farms in our future?!

San Diego-a-go-go!

James Lipetzky just finished shooting a piece with the folks from DraftFCB for Stelara. Chicago producer Carrie Lewis was on board for this San Diego shoot and had simply wonderful things to say about our L.A. crew. Greetings from sunny San Diego!!

As a side note, Morgan Spurlock was staying at the same hotel and on the last night of shooting, Carrie passed him in the hallway!
